Description
ZOO Interlocking, located in Philadelphia, is where the Keystone Corridor meets with the Northeast Corridor. ZOO is used by Amtrak trains operating Keystone and Pennsylvanian service and SEPTA’s Paoli/Thorndale Line to access 30th Street Station. CSX and Norfolk Southern also pass through ZOO in order to access freight yards in South Philadelphia. The estimated $45 million interlocking upgrade project includes:
- New freight bypass track construction; including new overhead catenary system (OCS) construction;
- New retaining wall construction;
- New storage track construction;
- Rehabilitation and resurfacing of existing track infrastructure;
- New stormwater management construction, including drainage, grading and ditch installation; and
- Installation of new communication and signaling (C&S) equipment
