Pittsburgh Control Point Home (Homewood West interlocking upgrade)

Description

The objective of this project is to upgrade CP Home Interlocking in Pittsburgh, PA to allow Amtrak trains to enter and exit the mainline faster after completing their daily journeys. When Pennsylvanian trains discharge passengers in Pittsburgh, they are required to turn so they are facing eastbound for the return trip east. To accomplish this, train conductors currently are required to physically leave the train and hand-operate a mainline switch at CP Home. Once this project is complete, trains will be able to proceed through the mainline switch without stopping, eliminating the time-consuming current process.

Specifically, this project will include upgrades to an existing hand-throw turnout, including power switch and interlocking upgrades, as well as associated civil, track, and site work.
