The objective of this project is to upgrade and extend an existing maintenance track through the Pittsburgh, PA Amtrak Station to allow freight trains to bypass Amtrak trains stopped on Main #1. This includes interlocking and area infrastructure upgrades, as well as a replacement maintenance track.
Specifically, new power turnouts and a new interlocking will be installed. Additional track, signal, civil site work, and structural modifications are also anticipated to support the bypass project construction. The Amtrak Union Station train shed will have clearance modifications completed to accommodate double stack container traffic on the new bypass track.
