Description
The 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue Streetscaping Projects were undertaken to improve ADA accessibility, expand bicycle and pedestrian facilities, improve traffic operations, and enhance aesthetics and safety between the new train station site and downtown Coatesville. The project improves pedestrian connectivity between the community and the future train station, promotes area-wide revitalization, and expands parking options for train passengers.
Streetscaping along the four-block stretch of 3rd and 4th Avenue between Fleetwood Street at the train station and Lincoln Highway (Route 30) was completed in coordination with the train station development project. In addition to repaving both 3rd and 4th Avenue, the $1 million streetscaping initiative included:
- ADA-compliant sidewalks, ramps, and crosswalks;
- New lighting;
- Modernized traffic signals and signage; and
- Bicycle racks, benches, and trash receptacles.
As part of the project, the Olivet United Methodist Church parking lot at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Fleetwood Street was improved and made available to train passengers.
